Le Boui-Boui: 22 square metres run like a front room
The smallest bar in this selection and perhaps the most endearing: 22 square metres on rue Finkwiller, local wine and beer, regulars who know each other.

The verdict
Twenty-two square metres: Le Boui-Boui lives up to its name, which is French for a hole in the wall. At 28 rue Finkwiller, between La Petite France and the quays, this pocket bar is run like a front room whose owner knows every regular. It is the exact opposite of the big central addresses, and one of the most genuine nights out in the city.
What to drink
Local wine and beer, served without a showy list but with the right word about every bottle. You come less for the depth of the cellar than for the conversation that goes with it.
Visiting tip
Do not turn up eight-handed, the room simply will not take it. Two or three of you, early in the evening, and this is the place where one visit makes you a regular. Finkwiller itself is a little known quarter, well worth a wander before your first drink.
