Al Diwan: the generous Lebanese table on rue Munch

Al Diwan, the Lebanese restaurant on rue Munch in Strasbourg

The verdict

At 2 rue Munch, two minutes from place d'Austerlitz, Al Diwan has held the rank of Strasbourg's benchmark Lebanese restaurant for years: generous family cooking, mezze that arrive in waves, and a consistency that keeps the neighbourhood coming back as faithfully as visitors looking for something other than choucroute, the local sauerkraut piled with pork.

What to eat

The Lebanese repertoire done properly: houmous, moutabal, tabbouleh with fresh herbs, grilled meats and rose water pastries. Sharing mezze is the right way to order here, at prices that stay reasonable given how generous the plates are.

Visiting tip

During the Christmas market this is one of the smartest non-Alsatian tables in the centre: walking distance from the chalets, but off the tourist flow. Book at weekends, the neighbourhood is busy in the evening.
